What is Ah My Goddess! ?

Ah My Goddess! (Aaa! Megamisamaa) is a Japanese comic book or as they call them a Manga. It has been written by Fujishima Kosuke and has first appeared in Comic Afternoon on September 25, 1988. Later, a cartoon version or, if you prefer, an Anime has been created.

And the story…

Morisato Keiichi is an ordinary student attending the Nekomi Institute of Technology (NIT). Guarding the dormitory for the evening while his roommates are probably partying, he tries to order take-out food. After a few unsuccessful tries, he misdial one number and is connected to the Goddess Technical Help Line. A few seconds later, a goddess actually appear besides him, using a mirror as a "teleportation device"! [Belldandy's first visit video]

Waaaah! Of course, he's startled. A girl coming out from a mirror…

She introduces herself has Belldandy, a goddess that is sent especially to grant him one wish, anything he may want. If he'd want fame, fortune, girls, anything, it would be provided immediately and this wish would be enforced indefinitely. Thinking that it's a joke from his dorm friends and not having any girlfriend, he asks for a goddess like her to always be with him.

While thinking this might not be the wisest choice, the wish is granted in a very spectacular way, making a mess out of the room.

In NIT's dorms, there is one rule which states "No women in men's dormitories!". What happens next? Our lucky Keiichi is discovered by his friends with a beautiful girl in his hands. Only one thing can happen, he is thrown out on the spot, with his girl.

This is the setting for one of the cutest anime in the marketplace. Many other things happen next, we've only cited the first ten minutes of the first episode…

Note about the name

There are two correct ways to write the name of the serie:

Ah! My Goddess! which is used in japanese versions of the manga/anime.
Oh! My Goddess! which is used by AnimEigo (anime english translators) and Dark Horse Comics (comics english translators) as an intended pun to the "Oh! My God!" expression.

We are purists, so we chose to use "Ah! My Goddess!" even more since the japanese title in romanji is written "aa megamisama" and not "oo megamisama".

Qu'est-ce que Ah! My Goddess ?

Ah My Goddess! (Aaa! Megamisamaa) est une bande dessinnée japonaise ou Manga. Il a été écrit par Fujishima Kosuke. La série paraît dans Comic Afternoon depuis le 25 septembre 1988. Plus tard, un dessin animé ou Animé est apparu.

L'histoire…

Morisato Keiichi est un étudiant très ordinaire allant au Nekomi Institute of Technology (NIT). De garde au dortoir des hommes un soir pendant que ses colocataires sont probablement en pleine fête, il essaie de se commander de la nourriture, sans succès. Après quelques essais, il se trompe de numéro et rejoint le Goddess Technical Help Line. Quelques secondes plus tard, une déesse se matérialise devant lui, utilisant un miroir comme "outil de téléportation"!

Waaaah! Bien sûr, il a peur. Une fille sortant d'un miroir…

Elle s'introduit comme étant Belldandy, une déesse qui est envoyée pour lui exaucer un voeu, tout ce qu'il veut. S'il voulait la gloire, la fortune, des filles, n'importe quoi, il l'aurait immédiatement et ce souhait serait respecté indéfiniment. Pensant que c'est une blague de ses amis et n'ayant pas de petite amie, il demande qu'une déesse comme elle soit à ses côtés pour le restant de ses jours.

Tout en songeant que cela ne serait pas le meilleur choix possible, son voeu est exaucé d'une façon très spectaculaire, mettant la pièce à l'envers du même coup.

Dans les dortoirs du NIT, il y a une règle qui spécifie "Aucune fille dans les dortoirs des hommes". Que se passe-t-il après? Notre Keiichi national est découvert avec une belle fille dans ses bras par ses colocataires. Une seule chose peut arriver, il est jeté dehors sur le champ, avec la fille qu'il ne connaît pourtant pas.

C'est la situation initiale pour l'un des Animé des plus Kawaii sur le marché.

Note à propos du nom

Il y a deux manières correctes d'écrire le nom de la série:

Ah! My Goddess! qui est utilisé dans les versions japonaises du Manga et de l'Animé.
Oh! My Goddess! qui est utilisé par AnimEigo (traducteurs en anglais de l'Animé) et par Dark Horse Comics (traducteurs en anglais du Manga) avec l'intention avouée de faire un jeu de mot avec l'expression "Oh! My God!" (Oh! Mon Dieu).

Nous sommes des puristes, nous avons choisis d'utiliser "Ah! My Goddess!" surtout que le nom japonais est écrit: "aa megamisama", non pas "oo megamisama".
